Nearly 100,000 dehumidifiers are being recalled after reports of 11 incidents of property damage, including four building fires, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission said.

The Chinese-made dehumidifiers, manufactured by LG Electronics Tianjin Appliance Co., were sold under the Goldstar and Comfort-Aire brands at Walmart, Home Depot and Heat Controller Inc. The dehumidifiers also are being recalled by Health Canada.

Those who have the dehumidifiers are asked to stop using them immediately.

In a news release, the CPSC said the power connector to the unit's compressor can short circuit, which can cause a fire.

The models being recalled have a 30-pint reservoir, a red shut-off button, a front loading bucket as well as fan and humidity controls. They were sold for $140 to $150 between January 2007 and June 2008.

To see if your dehumidifier is affected, go to this site set up by LG and enter your brand, model and serial model numbers. The serial number can be seen when the bucket is removed.

For those who register with the recall, LG will provide repairs at an approved service center to modify the unit. They should not be brought back to the retailer and no proof of purchase is necessary.

For more information, call LG at 877-220-0479 weekdays between 9 a.m. and 8 p.m. Eastern Time and between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. on Saturdays.
